Dock Leveler Repair in Shamokin
When a dock leveler won't rise, drops too fast or has a bent lip, freight backs up quickly. We find what failed, show you photos, explain whether repair or replacement makes sense and get your door back in service safely.
Getting a stuck or damaged leveler working again
A dock leveler takes a beating every shift. Forklifts roll over the lip hundreds of times, trailers pull away early and winter salt works its way into the pit. Most problems start small, like a lip that hesitates or a deck that settles unevenly, and grow into a dock you have to block off.
We service hydraulic, air-powered and mechanical pit levelers, plus edge-of-dock units. Our technicians are factory-trained and certified on the equipment of the manufacturers we represent, so the parts and settings we use match what the leveler was built for.
If the damage came from an impact, a trailer pulling out with the lip down or a storm, we document it carefully. You get photos and plain notes on what broke and why, which you can hand to your insurer. We explain how these claims usually go, but the adjuster makes the coverage call, and we will be honest with you about that from the start.

What our dock leveler work covers
- 01
Hydraulic system repair
We check cylinders, hoses, the pump and the velocity fuse that stops a free fall. Leaks, slow lift and a deck that drifts down are usually traced here.
- 02
Lip and hinge work
A bent lip or worn hinge pin keeps the lip from extending flat onto the trailer bed. We straighten or replace the lip, replace pins and reset the lip keepers.
- 03
Mechanical spring and hold-down service
On pull-chain levelers we adjust or replace lift springs and the hold-down mechanism so the deck rises with control and stays where it should.
- 04
Air bag and blower service
For air-powered units we inspect the bag for punctures, test the blower and check the controls.
- 05
Structural and weld repair
Cracked deck plates, broken welds and damaged toe guards get repaired or replaced so the platform carries its rated load again.
- 06
Damage documentation
When a claim is possible, we photograph the damage before we touch it and write up what failed and what the repair involves.
Questions about Dock Levelers?
Call(570) 683-1330Signs your dock leveler needs attention
The deck rises slowly or not at all
Low fluid, a worn pump or a weak air blower can all cause this. Cold mornings make a marginal hydraulic system show its age first.
The lip won't extend fully
Operators end up jumping the deck or pushing the lip by hand. That is a safety problem and usually points to a bent lip or a worn hinge.
The deck drops hard
A leveler that falls when a trailer pulls away needs checking right away. The safety legs or velocity fuse may not be doing their job.
Oil under the pit
Fluid on the pit floor means a hose, fitting or cylinder seal is leaking.
Cracks, bounce or loud bangs
Visible weld cracks, a deck that flexes under a forklift or a sharp bang at the lip transition mean structure is wearing out.
How a dock leveler repair goes
- 1
Phone conversation
You tell us what the leveler is doing, the make if you know it and whether something hit it. We talk through what to look for and set a visit time that works around your receiving schedule.
- 2
Inspection and photos
On site we lock out the leveler, inspect the deck, lip, hydraulics or springs and the pit, and photograph what we find before any parts come off.
- 3
A written estimate
You get a line-item estimate and an honest answer on repair versus replacement. If a claim is involved, the photos and notes go with it.
- 4
Repair, test and cleanup
We make the repair, cycle the leveler through its full range under load and confirm the safety features work. Then we clean the pit and the area and walk your team through what we did.
What affects the cost of a leveler repair
Most leveler repairs come down to which part failed and how hard it is to reach. We give you the price in writing before work starts, and we explain any line you have questions about.
- Type of leveler
- Hydraulic, air-powered and mechanical units use different parts, and some cost more to source than others.
- Extent of the damage
- Replacing a hose is a small job. A bent lip plate or cracked deck structure takes more time, steel and welding.
- Parts availability
- Current models usually have parts on hand. Older or discontinued levelers may need parts ordered or adapted.
- Pit condition
- Crumbling curb angles, standing water or debris in the pit can add work before the leveler itself is fixed.
- Scheduling around your operation
- Working outside your busy receiving windows can affect labor, and we will tell you up front if it does.
Dock leveler questions
Should I repair my leveler or replace it?
If the frame and deck are sound, a repair is usually the better value. When the structure is cracked in several places or parts are no longer made, replacement can cost less over time. We show you photos of what we found so you can weigh it yourself, and if replacing makes sense our loading dock equipment installation crew can handle it.
Will my insurance cover leveler damage?
It depends on your policy and how the damage happened, such as a trailer impact versus normal wear. We can't promise coverage or speak for your adjuster. What we can do is document the damage clearly with photos and written notes so your claim has what it needs.
Is it safe to keep using a leveler that drops too fast?
We would not recommend it. A sudden drop can injure an operator or tip a load. Block off the door and have it inspected before the next trailer.
Do you work on brands you don't sell?
Yes, we service most common leveler makes, not only the lines we carry. On other brands we source matching parts and follow the original manufacturer's settings so the repair behaves the way the leveler was designed to.
How can I keep this from happening again?
Regular checks catch leaks, worn hinges and weak springs early. Our loading dock preventative maintenance visits cover levelers along with doors and vehicle restraints, which also stop trailers from pulling away during loading.
